Steps

Following the kindergarten’s or founder’s instructions

  1. 1

    Find the local enrolment notice

Check the municipality or city, founder and preferred kindergarten websites. The notice states deadlines, available programmes and the application method.

  2. 2

    Check conditions and priority criteria

Read the local rulebook or decision because the founder sets scoring, evidence required and the area to which the kindergarten gives priority.

  3. 3

    Prepare requested evidence

Collect only documents listed in the local notice. For online application, first check which information the system can retrieve automatically.

  4. 4

Submit the application under local instructions

Complete the form, attach requested evidence and retain confirmation of timely submission.

  5. 5

    Check enrolment results

Results are published in the way stated in the notice. If you consider the decision incorrect, check appeal instructions and the deadline.

  6. 6

    Complete medical examinations

After acceptance and before final enrolment or attendance, obtain the prescribed medical certificate and follow kindergarten instructions on vaccination and other documents.

  7. 7

Complete enrolment and sign the contract

By the deadline set by the kindergarten, submit final documents and sign the programme-use agreement.

Important notes

  • Not all kindergartens use the national e-Enrolments system. Some founders use their own electronic system and some prescribe another submission method.
  • Deadlines, scoring, evidence required and price differ between cities, municipalities and kindergartens.
  • A timely application does not guarantee a place if the kindergarten lacks capacity.
  • To receive enrolment priority, stating the circumstance alone is insufficient; where data is not available through official verification, attach the evidence required by the local notice.
  • Before enrolment, the child must complete the prescribed preventive examination, and regular vaccination follows current rules unless there is a medical contraindication.
  • Regular kindergarten is not compulsory for every child; the preschool programme is compulsory in the year before starting primary school.

Common mistakes

  • Following only the preferred kindergarten’s page and overlooking the city, municipality or other founder’s notice.
  • Assuming every kindergarten uses the same online system.
  • Sending the application after the local deadline or without confirmation it was received successfully.
  • Attaching unnecessary documents while omitting evidence for a priority criterion that the system could not verify automatically.
  • Missing the deadline to appeal or complete enrolment after results are published.
  • Leaving the medical examination and final documents until the last minute.
