Changing your personal name

Prepare the application and court certificate
Attach a certificate that no criminal proceedings are pending against you.

Submit the application to the competent administrative authority
Submit it to the county or City of Zagreb administrative authority for your registered residence.

Wait for finality and registration
Use the new name after the change is registered in the birth register.

Replace documents and update records
Apply for a new identity card and other documents bearing the new name.

Important notes
- A child older than ten must also consent; for a minor, prescribed consents of parents or guardians are generally required.
- After registration, apply for a new identity card within 15 days and replace other documents bearing the former name.
