Determine the reason and deregistration deadline
The deadline depends on registration expiry, destruction, write-off, theft or change of ownership.

Bring the registration certificate, both plates, identification and required proof concerning the vehicle.

You can complete the procedure in person or through a duly authorised person.

If you do not renew registration, deregister the vehicle within 15 days of expiry of the registration certificate.
For a destroyed, written-off or stolen vehicle, the official source states a 30-day deadline.
A new owner must register the vehicle in their name or deregister it within 15 days.

Not bringing both licence plates for deregistration.

Assuming a vehicle is automatically deregistered immediately after sale.
